Harsher Punishment and new Rule

From: Sash | Posted: 6/18/2004 10:12:09 AM User Level: Administrator
There has been a lot of pressure for me to implement more strict measures with multiple account owners. First off, you are no longer allowed to "manage" someone elses account. This has caused most of the problems with the game. You can log into one account and only one. Anyone caught cheating will have the second account deleted and the first one punished. If you delete it yourself, there will be no punishment.

At last. Except that I'd like for people to be able to log on for me. Oh, well... Autobuyers can do the job until something's done about them...

Question. If I am at a friends house and I log into my account will my account be deleted because I logged in from a different IP address? Can it be one account being accessed by 2 or even 3 different IP addresses. I am saying this because if I am over a friends house I will access my account. They do not have their own account so it will only be a new IP address accessing it.

Yes, two people can log onto their accounts on the same IP. It's just that there has to be different people behind the computer both times. Just to be safe, don't log in in the same 10 minute period or so.

Sasha,

Are you making an allowance for 2 different people (from the same office - or school for that matter) using a common gateway with NAT (meaning 1 public IP shared by like 50 computers all haveing 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x IPs) ?

Yeah, all of that is fine.

Also, if someone knows of someone with more than one account, please notify me. It will help the game a lot.

Want to make this game really competitive for as least as long as it takes to build up more multis? Delete everything below page 3.

There are some legit accounts on Page 4. They just play much less. (But they have played in Beta 3.)

I was actually referring to allowing more then one IP to access one account. I mean if I was at a friends house that does not play and I access my account then come home and access it again will I be able to do that?

Yeah, that's fine. The key words here are that only you can access your account.

Are you planning to publicly post the penalty?

Please change the info on the rules and make them more clear and the punishment clear, so that those of us who are sharing computers honestly (and not sharing accounts) can make sure that we follow the rules and are not subject to punishment. If you make it too difficult to play the game, we all suffer the consequences. The concept is fine, but it is difficult to discern the truth for each case.

Well, I ussually just look at the actions of the accounts if it is suspicious. Ussually it isn't too difficult. (For example, they take turns logging in one computer over a period of 10 minutes. This will ussually result in a lot of money on one account.) If you play fairly, you should be fine.

Like I said. The logs tell all. Listen to the logs. The logs foretell....
